60 years ago, Adolf Wuttke started his business as a welding wire dealer in Hamburg, but soon started manufacturing mechanical tools for deep immersion. These units, i.e. the "Kastengreifer" (a means for lifting sand from the seabed) or the "Planktonhai" (a tool for capturing plankton from the sea) are still in use all over the world!
Adolf Wuttke's customers - the German shipyard industry - always needed strong and durable workwear. At Wuttke's in Hamburg, a heavy, seaworthy and waxed sail, the so-called "Deutschleder" (German leather) was custom-made.
From this design and demand, a functional, protective clothing collection was created that met the requirements for working at sea in harsh and stormy conditions.
This decades of expertise in performance and ergonomics relating to the requirements for tough and practical workwear saw Thomas Wuttke join the company in 1986 and begin to create a new generation of functional jackets.
